My Friend Can Not Afford An Attorney But Needs To File Bankruptcy Chapter 7 In Michigan. Any Advice???
Tell her to bend over, grab her ankles, and kiss her rear goodbye.
The bankruptcy bill, solely written by banking interests and approved by Congress in 2005, (which included Obama, Clinton, etc.) makes it nearly impossible to file for bankruptcy anymore.
Tell your friend good luck, but she will probably be in debt for life.
As the first responder noted: Regardless of cost, get legal advice.

Your friend needs to call up legal aid or hire a lawyer. Bankruptcy today is nothing to monkey with and can create more problems than you can imagine ESPECIALLY IN MICHIGAN!
Rule 9011 and other rules of the bankruptcy court impose sanctions against people who do things wrong, even if they represent themselves.
The bankruptcy code was amended to make it extremely difficult to file for Chapter 7 to begin with. You also need to go to credit counseling and debtor education classes and get a certificate.
Moreover, your friend needs to go over all of his/her property and exemptions with someone who is licensed to practice law, before filing, to make sure that every possible exemption is accounted for and to make sure that Chapter 7 is the right way to go. Also the schedules in the petition have to be accurate.
Finally, if the court finds the Chapter 7 was not filed in good faith, your friend could be barred from filing another bankruptcy for some time.
Do you really want to see your friend go through this abuse? No. Your friend needs a professional bankruptcy attorney.

I strongly recommend calling around for an attorney or legal aid of some kind. The paperwork is complicated and you don’t want to mess this up..also getting bankruptcy is not as easy as it use to be which is why costs have gone up.
