Howdy! Here is a good bankruptcy question. Please feel free to add your comments to the mix!
Question… Hubby had an appendectomy and the hospital bill is $32000 and the hospital refuses to go any lower than $250 a month, which we just cannot afford. So we’re thinking of filing chapter 7 bankruptcy (for the medical bills)…..
will that affect our foster care/adoptive license any? We’re perfectly able to pay our other bills etc, its just that medical we cannot. We will soon have medical insurance so this is not an issue again.
No, we are not using a medical card. He went into the ER after being in severe pain for several days and had to have his appendix removed which was about to burst. We were only in there for about 6 hours.
GI jane: Actually you do not seem to know what you are talking about. Already spoke to the “professionals” about it and they dont see it that way at all over a MEDICAL BILL. (We already have adopted and about to finalize on another as well as another placement about to happen)
If all of our bills etc were behind, yes that would be true, but the only thing there is an issue with is a outrageous medical bill. We have no problem with ANY of our other bills, I even have great credit right now. Also, we are correcting the issue of insurance so this problem does not arise again.
Our children are very well cared for and have much much more than just the essentials.
Ive only used yahoo answers a few times before, but its the same each time… people with no clue try to answer things they know nothing about.
Erin: It is not REQUIRED in our state to have health insurance. It is not that we cannot do the $250 but it takes away so much from our family activities etc and could cause issues with other bills possibly, As for medical insurance, already getting it… foster parents in our state can get medical insurance for only $30 per person per month! Extremely affordable. Unfortunately, we found out about that after the appendectomy.
So yes, we can afford things for our children etc. The big problem here with answers is, depending on what amount of money your used to and how you manage your finances it makes it difficult for those with a “lot of money” to understand how having less is still fully function able. Keep in mind, area you live in, how you shop etc is almost the main bit of if you have enough money.
No matter how much money a person has, if you get a large medical bill this is what can happen. It has nothing to do with if you can afford your children.
Very interesting. Sometimes questions can be helpful, and sometimes they create even more questions. This one created more.
Have a productive day!
